ELIZABETH'S NEWS
Since last I wrote on my blog our seasons have changed from autumn to winter. Here in the Western Cape we have our main rainfall during the winter months whilst in other parts of the country like the Northern Province and Gauteng they have their main rainfall during summer.
This means that things like laundry have to be carefully planned for days when the sun is shining as it can rain for days on end. Our dams are almost 80% full already which means that we will not have watering restrictions during the summer months but we still have to be careful and not waste water.
My husband and I are very fortunate as we will be leaving in 10 days time for a three week holiday in Thailand so we will miss a good part of the winter here but no doubt we will find it even colder when we return from the warm climate there. We do not have snow in the city of Cape Town itself but in extreme conditions we can have snow on Table Mountain which is right behind the city. Further inland snow on the mountains is quite common during winter and then many city slickers head for the country at the weekends to play and ski in the snow.
In areas which have summer rainfall the temperatures in winter are much colder than here and they normally have frost most nights. We have to have very extreme conditions to have frost in Cape Town but when we do it is VERY cold as the ground and everything are normally very damp and wet.
Hope you have learnt something about our winter weather conditions here in South Africa.
